A resort and spa by Kempinski hotels group, located on a cliff on the island of Zanzibar with views of the ocean, reflects the vernacular architecture influenced by African and Arab culture.

The hotel is fitted with new five star restaurants and spa, alongside beautiful chalets for a relaxing getaway.

As the lead interior designer for the hotel, I redesigned the rooms and spa taking inspiration  from the coastal elements and local Arabic-African architecture. For example, the privacy window patterns are taken from the Dhow sails seen all around the hotel rooms, which creates a beautiful lantern effect with light glowing from it at night and shadows cast during the day.

Color palettes for the hotel spas and rooms were taken from the water, white sails and dark wood found around the country. Minimalist furniture, fabrics and lighting were all accented with patterns and materials found in the vernacular architecture providing a unique look.
